Digital Twin Component – Ice Sheets
Project Description
The ESA Digital Twin Component for Ice Sheets (DTC-IS) aims to develop a pre-operational digital twin of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets and ice shelves by integrating Earth Observation data, models, and other observations.
Use Case 3 focuses on the state and fate of Antarctic ice shelves, combining observations of the ice, ocean, sea ice, and atmosphere with ice sheet models and machine learning. It will provide tools to assess current ice shelf conditions and trends and explore “what-if” scenarios, including the impact of changes in basal melt on ice volume and sea-level contribution, and the potential for future ice shelf damage.
